OUTLINE OF BUDO SCIENCE
Budo 武 道– In Japanese, “bu” means “war” or “martial” and “do” means “path” or “way.” The literal English translation of budo is “the martial way.” You might also see it referred to as “the way of war.” In general terms, budo is now used to describe both the training and culture that goes into martial arts practice.
Science (Kagaku in Japanese 科学) – The systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation, experimentation, and the testing of theories against the evidence obtained.
Martial arts have been shrouded in mystery since time immemorial. How do you do this, how does that work, can I ever reach such heights and questions like these are often met with nebulous answers such as “train hard”, “you’ll understand in due time” and other vaguenesses which have been no help at all.
Spending 58 years in the martial arts, I have come to a point where all of my major questions have been answered. Yes, you read that right. All of my major questions. In my school, the combination of the arts I teach comes under the umbrella heading of Anderson Martial Arts Systems. Underlying them are the principles and concepts of what I call Budo Science.
“Loved your new book. It’s amazing how you can think and cover so many different aspects and topics of martial arts as a whole. This just speaks to your experience and understanding of martial arts as a whole. WOW!” Kirby Barker
“It’s great. It works across styles. This book has been sitting in your heart and mind for years.” Coach Jeff Burger
